Agents say men caught 53 redfish too many

If you’re going to catch more than your limit of fish, you might as well go WAY over your limit.

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, that’s what two anglers did Sunday. Terry Felo Jr., 42, of Harvey and Gary Felo, 39, of New Orleans were fishing near a pump station when an enforcement agent and Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a creel check of the anglers, the department said.

Terry Felo attempted to conceal their catch, according to the department, but the authorities still found 63 redfish, placing the anglers 53 fish over their legal limits. Only two of the fish were of legal size, the department said.

The men also possessed three undersized black drum, according to the department.

They were arrested and charged with taking and possessing undersized red drum, possessing more than 10 red drum and taking or possessing undersized black drum. The deputies also charged the men with criminal trespassing for entering parish-owned property without permission.

Taking undersized red drum carries up to a $350 fine and 60 days in jail. Possessing more than 10 red drum and intentional concealment of illegal fish each brings up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail for each offense.
