Matthew McConaughey’s Texas hunting ranch draws fire

PETA is not going to be alright-alright-alright with actor Matthew McConaughey.

According to TMZ, animal rights activists are upset that a McConaughey family ranch near Mertzon, Texas allegedly allows hunters to pay for the right to shoot whitetail deer on the property’s high-fenced grounds.

A representative for McConaughey told TMZ the actor hasn’t owned the LP Ranch since 2011. TMZ writes that the ranch still lists McConaughey as a co-owner, however that is not reflected on the site as of Wednesday afternoon.

McConaughey’s nephew Madison told TMZ the actor mostly just sticks to the portion of the ranch intended for horse and cattle-raising.

High fencing is common on Texas hunting ranches, as it allows property owners to carefully manage both native and exotic wildlife populations, as well as discourage poaching. Animal rights groups, however, claim that the high fences trap animals from running away from hunters.
