Ford recalls 213,000 vehicles including some Explorers

Earlier this week, Ford Motor Company issued three new safety recalls that might affect a vehicle that you own.  More than 213,000 vehicles are affected, although some are police interceptors and ambulances.  As with all recalls, I encourage you to follow up if your vehicle is on the list.  If you are the original owner, you can expect to be notified by Ford.

The first issue is with 2011 – 2013 Explorer SUVs (including the police Interceptors).  While no accidents or injuries have been reported, there is a risk that a spring that controls the inside door handle can fail during a side-impact crash and the door can open suddenly.  Ford had issued a recall last year for this problem, but these vehicles were not on the list.

The second recall is for more than 1,700 2013 – 2015 Lincoln MKT limos and hearses.  A vacuum pump defect can result in an underhood fire.  There have been two such fires reported, according to Ford, although no accidents or injuries are believed to have occurred.

Ambulances with defect exhaust gas temperature sensors are also the subject of a recall.  There can be false overheating alerts on 2011 – 2013 F-Series Super Duty ambulances and 2014 – 2015 F-Series Super Duty ambulances and emergency vehicles with 6.7L diesel engines.  Again, no accidents or injuries have been reported.
