Huge Great White shark pulled from the Gulf of Mexico by fishermen

A team of specialty anglers pulled a rare find from the Gulf of Mexico: a Great White Shark, the largest predatory fish on Earth.

The shark fishers reeled in their catch from shore near Panama Beach, Florida.

After reeling in, tagging and releasing the nine-foot eight-inch shark, the members of Dark Side Sharkers announced their catch on Facebook.

“JUST WANTED TO LET YALL KNOW WE JUST RELEASED A GREAT WHITE SHARK!!!!!!! \m/ DARK SIDE HOLDING IT DOWN,” they wrote on the group’s page.

According to National Geographic, Great Whites navigate mostly by smell, and can sense a drop of blood in water from up to three miles away. They are also considered endangered, even though little is known about their population.

An article by Wide Open Spaces said the anglers spent almost an hour fighting to reel in the creature, and were shocked to find a Great White. The article said it’s one of only four Great Whites ever caught from shore in North America.
