New recalls tap Dodge, GM, Hyundai and Jeep

It has thankfully been pretty quiet this year when it comes to recalls, but they are still out there, and I wanted to share the info with you.

The first affects about 200,000 Hyundai Elantra vehicles, specifically the 2008 – 2010 Elantra and the 2009 – 2010 Elantra Touring; and it is the power steering that is affected. The driver would be able to to steer the car, but the problem would make that extremely difficult, particularly at low speeds. It appears that there have been no injuries or accidents and the problem can be fixed by the dealer.

A larger recall covers more than 460,000 Dodge and Jeep vehicles, specifically the 2012 – 2013 Dodge Durango and the4 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokiee. This is the expansion of a September, 2014 recall that covered the 2011 Grand Cherokee and Durango. The problem is a pattern of repairs involving fuel pump relays. Again, no accidents or injuries but recalls should be addressed.

GTM is recalling 58,000 2013 0 2015 Cadillac ATS vehicles for erratically closing roof panels and about 1,000 2014 Chevrolet Impalas with a braking defect that could potentially cause a fire if the brakes overheat. Again, contact your dealer.

In another new wrinkle on recalls, several states are looking at a requirement for the repair of a recall problem before the car or truck can be registered again by the owner. This isn’t overreach. It is a simple safety issue. Support it if you have the chance, especially if you buy or sell used cars or trucks.
