The Altima is a big seller for Nissan, and in an effort to keep it that way, the carmaker has expanded its recall for a potentially faulty hood latch that might cause the hood to fly up while the car is in motion.

The first part of this recall came last October, addressing the issue for about 238,000 vehicles. This new expansion takes it to about 640,00 more vehicles built between March 6, 2013 and December 31, 2014. This comprises 2013 to 2015 model year sedans.

Nissan has said that it has no reports of injuries or crashes involving the hood latch, but there have been a few cases that damaged vehicles. The company says that they do not yet know how to repair the problem, but are implementing an inspection/lubrication procedure in the interim through their dealers.

This latch was only supplied to Nissan so a similar recall from other manufacturers is not expected.
