It’s been a long and hard fight for Texans who support the open carry of handguns. Some people might be surprised to learn that openly carrying a handgun, even if you have a carry permit, is illegal in Texas despite their pro-gun reputation.
That might be soon changing. The state house voted this week to pass an open carry bill.
According to local media reports:
urning aside a flurry of Democratic amendments, the Texas House gave initial approval Friday to legislation that would allow those with a concealed handgun license to openly carry a holstered weapon in Texas.
Final approval of House Bill 910 is expected Monday after Friday’s 96-35 vote. A similar open carry bill passed the Senate last month.
There are still a few steps before open carry can become law in Texas. Governor Greg Abbott has indicated that he would sign an open carry bill into law when/if one reached his desk.
