A father saved his 13-year-old son from an alligator attack at a park near Lake Charlotte, east of Houston, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy and his father were in “serious but stable condition,” the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post.
An alligator bit Kaleb Hurley on the arm while Hurley was swimming at Cedar Hill Park, located just north of I-10, according to the Facebook post. The gator pulled the boy underwater, and his father jumped in the water to save him.
The Facebook post states James Hurley, 42, kicked the alligator away to thwart the attack. The alligator bit James Hurley in the leg in the process, police said.
Both of the Hurleys were flown to a nearby hospital.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was handling the case.
