What a Couple Caught on Camera in Their Kitchen Had Them Fascinated and Horrified at the Same Time

Laura Neff describes this past Sunday as rather “run of the mill” until this happened.

Hearing a noise in her Charlotte, North Carolina, home’s kitchen, she and Robert Hildreth went to investigate.

“[…] a noise in the kitchen made us look up…at the spice cabinet…where THIS was descending toward a basket of fresh eggs on the counter…!” Neff wrote in a description of the video posted to YouTube.

According to Neff, the snake is a rat snake or black racer. It’s a non-venomous species, which she actually describes as “beneficial due to their penchant for eating rodents and (OUTSIDE) eggs.”

How did the reptile slither into Neff and Hildreth’s home in the first place? She said there was a hole in their laundry room floor, but rest assured, it’s now “covered by a VERY heavy concrete block and which will soon be permanently plugged.”

But more importantly, how did the snake get out of their home? After allowing it to finish its meal — how kind of them — Neff wrote that she and Hildreth used two brooms to gently lift the snake out an open window.

While the snake, full on a fresh egg, went off on its merry way, Neff and Hildreth set about the task of calming their nerves.

“And then we drank,” she wrote.

Hildreth posted the video to his Facebook page Sunday evening, and as of the time of this posting, it has more than 300,000 views.
