Attention — two recalls announced this week could have an impact on your vehicle safety.  One is for about 80,000 truck and SUV tires.  The second is for more than 420,000 Volkswagens from a range of product lines.

Tires

The Discount Tire recall affects the company’s ‘Pathfinder’* branded tires sold between August of 2013 and May of 2015.   Testing has found that the rubber coating between two steel belts is not thick enough, and the tread could separate if the belt cracks.  No accidents have been recorded.  Contact your Discount Tire dealer for replacement or refund if you purchased any of these tires.

Volkswagen

This very large recall is caused by wiring to the airbag.  If there is a shift in the steering wheel clock spring tension to the internal flat cable can cause a breach and the airbag could be rendered inactive.  If the airbag light is on, contact your Volkswagen dealer immediately; otherwise, you will be contacted by VW if you are the initial owner with instructions as to what course to follow.  If you have purchased any of the vehicles listed, contact your VW dealer for instructions.

The affected vehicles are:

  • 2010 – 2014 VW CC
  • 2010 – 2013 VW Eos
  • 2010 – 2013 VW Jetta and Jetta Sportwagen
  • 2011 – 2014 VW Passat (German production)
  • 2010 – 2014 VW Passat (U.S. production)
  • 2010 – 2014 VW Tiguan

If you know of someone who owns one of these vehicles or who may have the tires that have been recalled let them know that there may be a problem.

*This tire recall is not for Nissan’s Pathfinder vehicle.  It is specifically for Pathfinder tires sold by Discount Tire.
