First Look – SilencerCo Osprey Micro .22LR [VIDEO]

We have an in depth look at the brand new SilencerCo Osprey Micro .22LR suppressor.

Taking after it’s big brother Osprey and distant cousin the Salvo, the Osprey Micro is an eccentric design suppressor that sits below the axis of the barrel giving the shooter a full view of his sights and target area.  While this isn’t completely necessary for .22LR pistols since the suppressors are already able to keep a 1″ diameter, it does allow for shorter configurations and unique disassembly.

The Osprey .45 (top) and Osprey Micro in short configuration (bottom)

The default configuration of the Osprey Micro is 4.6″ long, however in less than a minute you can swap out the assembly rod and remove three baffles making the suppressor only 3.1″ in length.  I was impressed by how easy it was to take the can apart to reconfigure and clean it.

The Osprey Micro does not share any design of it’s big brother Ospreys besides the eccentric layout.  The timing adjustment is not held by a locking lever like the 9mm/45 suppressor, instead it has an entirely new mount system where the user needs to time a coarse threaded adapter mount to the end of the barrel timing it with a set of shims.  SilencerCo does take the guess work out of alignment with their included chart.

The threaded adapter system does make attachment fast, however you must be careful on installing it because it is easy to cross thread and misalign.  However once you have the adapter mounted correctly on your firearm it’s easy to attach straight enough.

S&W M&P with Osprey Micro in its short configuration

I perceived the Micro to have a little extra first round pop, but I also expected that due to the larger interior of the can.  However on the video you see little evidence of this.  The short configuration is noticeably louder on the pistol, and I never tried it on a rifle.  But what would you expect for a 3″ suppressor?

I belive in the end it will boil down to user preference for the style of suppressor.  On modern style semi pistols like the rimfire M&P, SR22, Walther P22, or a converted Glock the Micro Osprey will look right at home.  On a slim bull barrel Ruger or Buckmark a traditional tube suppressor might be better matched.

M16 with .22LR Conversion Kit for Full Auto Testing

The Osprey is rated for full auto fire and can handle 22LR, .22 Mag, 17HMR, and .22WMR.  The best price I’ve found is from Silencer Shop for $465.  Extra adapter kits will run around $60.
