Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew is new for 2017

If a beefed up version of Ford’s F-150 Raptor is on your radar — whether you win Powerball or not — you are going to be delighted with the 2017 version that Ford showed for the first time today.

The company, which sells more trucks than any truck maker in the world, has made the new version roomier, more agile, and with performance enhancements that will thrill on-road drivers and off-roaders alike.

An all new 3.5-L EcoBoost engine mated to a new 10-speed transmission and torque-on-demand transfer case provides more power and efficiency than any previous Raptor edition.  The new truck is also 500-lbs. lighter than its predecessor due to the use of advance material technology and design improvements.

An enhanced suspension, purpose-built engine and chassis improve on the already-outstanding functionality no matter what the terrain.  Six preset terrain modes make this a truck that even a novice can handle with a little bit of practice.  Modes include: normal for everyday driving, street mode for higher performance on-road driving, weather mode for rain, snow or ice, mud and sand mode, Baja mode for desert running and rock mode for rock crawling.

The SuperCrew is a full 12-inches longer (145-inch wheelbase) than the standard Raptor SuperCab.  It has four full-size doors for more legroom in the rear seat and more space for gear for the outdoorsman.  The Raptor is also 6-inches wider than the standard F-150.

As with the other F-series trucks, including the new SuperDuty, there is more high strength steel in the new Raptor, combined with the aircraft grade aluminum that has proven so effective in other F-150 models.

There is an available Torsen front differential for increased front end grip and managing obstacles.  FOX Racing Shox are standard for dampening and stiffer suspension travel. Front and rear shock canisters are larger in diameter for improved performance and more suspension travel than the current Raptor.

The new Raptor will be available in fall of 2016.
