Miami Boat Show Preview: New Fishing Boats from Boston Whaler, Edgewater, Mako

As the Miami Boat Show approaches (it runs February 11 through the 15th) the press releases are starting to fly. And already, we’re hearing about some cool new fishing boats that will be hitting the water for the 2017 model year. Here’s a glimpse of cool things to come from the likes of Boston Whaler, Edgewater, and Mako.

Boston Whaler 280 Outrage – This center console runs with twin engines between 250 and 350 HP, and powered to the max, will break 61 MPH (with the twin 250’s, it still hits 52 MPH). It marks a bit of a departure for Whaler, which seems to have been quite focused on introducing new center console yachts like the 420 and 330 Outrage models. Those gigantic CC’s are cool, for sure, but they obviously appeal to a small segment of very wealthy anglers. So it’s nice to see them introduce something a little closer to reality, for the American middle class. New features it incorporates include a newly-designed leaning post with a 40-gallon livewell, and a built-in rigging station. Edgewater 262 – Another mid-sized center console hitting the water this year will be the Edgewater 262. This boat features single piece infusion construction (SPI), which vacuum-infuses the hull, stringers, and structural components together in a closed mold. Net result? The boat feels solid as a rock when smashing through rough seas. Some highlights include a powder-coated fiberglass hardtop with six rocket launchers, two integrated 120-quart fishboxes, a 28 gallon livewell, and four transom-mounted rodholders. Mako 334 CC – What? Mako is rolling out a new model? That hasn’t happened much lately, and while there have been a few updates and tweaks to their line-up, this legendary builder hasn’t really made BIG news since they rolled out the Pro Skiffs line. (Which we examined quite a bit, since a Pro Skiff made our list of Top New Fishing Boats for Under $15,000.) We’re guessing the 334 CC, however, is going to make some new headlines. But guessing is all we can do at this point. Though Mako made the announcement the only detail they released about this model is that it has a LOA of 33’1″. We’d say “visit Mako for more info” but they don’t have anything about this boat on their web site just yet.
