12.90 lb. bass landed from Toledo Bend

One of the biggest bass landed this spring was a 12.90 lb beauty caught by Keith Commeaux of Lake Charles.

He and his son fished Housen in the morning, caught a few fish, but it was tough going.

In the afternoon he decided to move to Mill Creek and try their luck fishing shallow, about 4 feet of water along the shoreline, between hay grass and patches of hydrilla.

He was throwing a wacky-rigged watermelon-purple Zoom Trick Worm tied to 12-pound line.

The bass bolted under the boat immediately upon seeing the net. “I kept sticking the end of the rod out as far I could to keep the line from touching the net and breaking,” said Comeaux. Once the bass was netted he knew it was a fish of a lifetime.

At Buckeye, the big bass tipped the scales at 12.90 lbs, with a length of 26 1/2 inches and a 21 1/2 girth.

Comeaux’s lunker is #66 for the 2015-16 season.
