Texas Game Wardens Bolt into Action During Latest Round of Storms

While most of Central and Southeast Texas hunkered down for another round of heavy rains and flooding late last night, Texas Game Wardens were busy mobilizing search and rescue resources and heading into the areas hit hardest by the latest storms.

Nearly three dozen game wardens, including four game warden swift water operators, were deployed in areas affected the hardest during the storm, including Bastrop, Travis, Grimes, Brazos, Washington, Austin and Waller counties.

By mid-afternoon Friday, game wardens had rescued 35 individuals and 12 pets and performed 68 flood evacuations.

In addition to game warden efforts, state park staff also took action to help folks caught in the path of the storm. Staff at Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site and Barrington Living History Farm worked together to shelter overnight a group of senior citizens from Houston who were stuck in the park due to road closures.

Although some state parks have been impacted by the latest storms, most remain open heading into the Memorial Day Weekend. Up-to-date information about the status of park facilities is available online at www.tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/park-alert-status.
