Cast Off at the Salty Classic Fishing Tournament on October 29th

Hook Part of the $10,000 Cash Pot and Support Salty Culture’s “Clean Culture” Mission

GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS (SEPTEMBER 8, 2016) – Cast off at the Salty Classic Fishing Tournament on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 at Pelican Rest Marina in Galveston, Texas. Cash payout is anticipated to be $10,000, distributed to the top five teams. Two-man and youth tournament teams can register online at www.thesaltyclassic.com.

In partnership with sponsors Classic Auto Group Galveston and Pelican Rest Marina, the tournament seeks to raise $50,000 for “Clean Culture,” a mobile shower trailer mission of Salty Culture. The eight-stall shower trailer-on-wheels will serve the island’s homeless population by providing dignity and opportunity to those experiencing crisis. Additionally, “Clean Culture” will be a partner to both Galveston Island and the surrounding region in the event of coastal natural disasters, able to provide showers to both victims and emergency crews during times of crisis.

“We believe that everyone has a right to be clean, and that a simple shower can provide comfort during a time of crisis,” stated Salty Culture founder, Clint Shuttlesworth. “That crisis could be an instance of homelessness but could also be in the face of a hurricane, devastating flooding events or any other natural disaster.”
The tournament will kick off with a Captain’s meeting at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 28th at Pelican Rest Marina, located at 7819 Broadway, Galveston, Texas. Fishing hours will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 29th and return for weigh-in that same day between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The Adult Division is awarded on a heavy stringer (five fish bag). Each adult team is only allowed to bring in one trout over 25” and no more than two slot reds. A combination of three trout and two reds make up the stringer. In the Youth Division (12 years of age and under), first through fifth place will be awarded to the heaviest fish, any species.
The Salty Classic weigh-in party begins at 5:00 p.m. at Pelican Rest Marina and features live entertainment, food and beer. Silent and live auctions will feature incredible art, photography, trips, jewelry, gift baskets and more! Wristbands for the weigh-in party can be purchased in advance for $10 online or at the door for $20.
