If your boat doesn’t offer some sort of protection from the sun, it can get miserable aboard. For anglers this often means opting for a T-top, but on some boats, like the cuddy cabin you see here, T-tops aren’t appropriate. A Bimini top is the next best choice.
Aside from fishability, there are a number of problems with Biminis. They’re much more easily damaged than a T-top, and require a lot more maintenance than one might expect. If your boat has a Bimini make sure you know these five maintenance tricks and tips, which will help it last longer.
BONUS TIP: Many Biminis have zippers for side curtains or storage boots. These often become difficult to use after a matter of months, but that’s because boat owners rarely lubricate them. Use a blast of silicon spray, then work the zipper back and forth to restore lubrication and make zippering easy again.
