Pearson’s Tacrail Offers Optic Options for Lever Guns

The Winchester Model 1894 rifle is one of the most popular lever action guns ever produced. This gun became one of the most famous hunting rifles of the late 19th and 20th centuries and this model still remains very popular today. The Model 94 was the first sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units in the United States. This was due to a combination of its compact and lightweight design as well as its potent firepower as this gun was chambered in popular cartridges.

Until recently, most owners of older Winchester Model 94s had very few options for mounting optics or other accessories to these famous lever guns unless they chose to drill and tap the receiver. That all changed when Dr. Basil Pearson designed a no-drill picatinny rail mount for the Winchester Model 94 as well as the Rossi Model 92 rifle a few years ago. The unique thing about this rail is that is also machined to take weaver mounts so you don’t have to worry about your optic or scope rings not fitting the rail.

Now shooters can enjoy using modern optics or other accessories on these iconic rifles. While some shooters use these rifles simply for target practice or home protection, it is no secret these are excellent choice for close range hunting. With the addition of a 30mm red dot sight or, for more magnification, an IER (Intermediate Eye Relief) pistol or scout scope, you have a gun that can compete with some of the best sporting rifles out there.

The Pearson’s Tactical Rail give endless possibilities to what used to be an old “iron sights only” rifle. Think about all of the options you now have. Aside from the two optics I mentioned above, you also have holographic sights, reflex sights, lasers, flashlights, and more you can mount on your gun! I found installation of this rail to be a breeze. Simply remove the rear sight with a brass drift punch, remove the link pin retaining screw and install the rail. The packaging comes with great instructions and there is even a YouTube video that Dr. Pearson made for his website that shows how to do the installation correctly.

I have installed many no-drill mounts on other rifles of different designs and calibers before and found this one to be very stable and well designed. This rail mounts where the rear sight used to be and the back of the rail functions as a rear sight if you pull your optics off of the rail. I found this to be rather nice. Not only do you not have to drill and tap one of these historically significant guns, you have a back-up rear sight if you need one. Since the Pearson’s Tactical Rail mounts forward of the receiver, it doesn’t interfere with the operation of the gun and, most importantly, the top ejection of a spent round. You can tell from the hardware that comes with the mount as well as the overall fit and finish of this mount was well thought out and carefully designed. What’s more is that shipping was fast and any questions I had were answered very quickly. Service after sale is so important to me in purchasing gun accessories like this as there are so many companies out there that just want your money and have poor customer care before and after the sale of the product. This company was outstanding every aspect of their product knowledge and service.

If you have an old lever gun like the Winchester Model 94 or Rossi Model 92, I would seriously give this company a look. I really enjoy having guns with reliable and durable optics as they improve my accuracy and overall enjoyment of the firearm.
