Giant Homemade 1.5 Gauge Shotgun!

Professional shooter Robert Vogel shows off his giant homemade 1.5 gauge shotgun, ten times more powerful than a 12 gauge.

As Robert explains in the video, this giant blackpowder shotgun really more of a traditional punt gun. Punt guns were a type of extremely large shotguns used in the 19th and early 20th centuries for shooting large numbers of waterfowl for commercial harvesting operations.  Now anything larger than 10 gauge is illegal for hunting waterfowl.  But that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun with the massive shotguns/tiny cannons.

The video shows his 47 pound shotgun loaded with 11 ounces of shot, on top of 650 grains of black powder.  That’s 10 times more than the standard birdshot shell.  I’ve shot lots of large firearms in my time, even 50BMG, but that recoil looks way more than I’ve ever experienced.  Even after resting on the hay bales, it pushes him over a foot back and knocks off his ear protection.

If you are wondering “how is this legal?” it is perfectly legal to manufacture your own firearms for private use without government permission.  But you cannot sell them. But this isn’t even a firearm.  This is a muzzle loader.  Therefore it isn’t even regulated under federal law.  Cannons are also legal, which really, this is more comparable to a cannon than a firearm.  If you know of a larger shotgun, feel free to leave a comment so we can all check it out.
