The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) will meet April 12-15, 2021 by webinar. The meeting will begin with a closed session to make preliminary selections for membership on the Reef Fish and Shrimp Advisory Panels. Appointees will undergo a fishery violations background check prior to finalizing appointments at the June Council Meeting. During closed session, the Council will also select the 2020 Law Enforcement Officer or Team of the Year award winner.

The Council is scheduled to take final action on two items during this meeting.

  • Framework Action: Modification of Annual Catch Limits for Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper
  • Framework Action: Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper Recreational Data Calibration and Recreational Catch Limits

Details on the proposed amendments and links to submit comment on each item will be updated on the Council’s “Amendments Under Development” webpage as soon as they become available.  The Council will also be collecting comments on Executive Order 14008 Sec 216c:  Conserving Our Nations Lands and Waters.

The public will have two opportunities to interact with the Council. An informal Question and Answer session will be held from 5:30 – 6:30 PM, EDT on Tuesday April 13, 2021. The session will provide the public with an opportunity to ask leaders from the Gulf Council, NOAA Fisheries, and Southeast Regional Science Center questions about the science and management of fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico.
