Ducks Unlimited, Inc., is the 2022 recipient of Delta Waterfowl’s inaugural Partners in Conservation Award. The award recognizes a history of collaborative work between the two organizations to conserve waterfowl habitat and benefit waterfowl hunters.
Delta Waterfowl is proud to recognize Ducks Unlimited for its committed and cooperative effort toward securing the future of North American waterfowl. Kellis Moss, DU’s director of public policy, accepted the award at the Champions of Delta Luncheon on July 30 during Delta’s Duck Hunters Expo in Little Rock, Arkansas.
For example, the U.S. Congress has begun working on the 2023 Farm Bill, which contains many agricultural programs that profoundly impact ducks. The existing Farm Bill — which was introduced in December of 2018 and expires in 2023 — represented an enormous investment in private land conservation in the United States. More than 90% of duck production in the U.S. occurs on private lands. Therefore, prioritizing policies that work for farmers and ranchers, as well as ducks, is crucial for conservation organizations.
“Delta is extremely proud of our productive relationship with Ducks Unlimited,” said John Devney, chief policy officer for Delta Waterfowl. “We will continue to press for duck-friendly outcomes in the 2023 Farm Bill, and the many other legislative issues that represent opportunities for conservation and conservation funding.”
Delta Waterfowl and Ducks Unlimited staff have a history of collaborating to secure significant victories for waterfowl and waterfowl habitat. The policy and government affairs teams of the respective organizations often work together closely, sharing priorities, crafting strategies and mobilizing members in a highly cooperative way, which leads to better outcomes for ducks and duck hunters.
