Gape-Width Factor
That’s a term sometimes used by fisheries researchers to describe the only limitation to a largemouth bass’s eating habits. In other words, they can and often do eat any living thing they can fit in their mouth. And that’s one reason creature baits are so popular among anglers pursuing big bass. Beyond worms and fish, there other items to mimic when trying to fool largemouths.
FishLab Tackle has done this in impressive fashion with their Nature Series Creature Baits. Created by award-winning lure designer Bill Siemantel, they come in eight tournament-proven colors and come designed to be fished on various 3/0-5/0 hook designs.
Here’s a look at these dynamic lures.
Nature Series Flutter Nymph is a creature bait with a sleek shape and four paddle-kicking wings. Available in a compact 3½” and the 4 ¼” size, they have you covered for your flipping and pitching needs.
The Nature Series Flippin’ Frog is uniquely designed to draw in big strike in and around the heaviest of cover. This one comes in a 3 ½” and magnum 4 ¼” sizing. The Frog has a classic creature bait shape with new natural creature looks. Offering a ton of secondary movement, these are great for throwing into the thick grass and mats.
Nature Series Cover Bird is designed to mimic baby birds falling out of their nests into the water. These baits come in at 4 ¼” and the magnum 5″ size.
These are the kinds of lures anglers can use when others fail. Bass, especially on pressured water bodies, become lure shy quickly. Giving them something different to look at is key and in the case of the Cover Bird, very few anglers are focusing on the bird pattern on your favorite lake.
I’ve gotten my hands on them in recent days and while fishing a friend’s pond, not only saw how lifelike they look in the water but that they also catch fish. Despite post-frontal condition, high barometric pressure and water temperatures knocked back seven degrees overnight, fish bit.
These creature baits work.
