TFG Reader Shares “Micro Deer” Story

We published a story recently on sightings of tiny adult whitetails.

It began with Editor-In-Chief Chester Moore’s family accounts of tiny bucks in San Saba County. His father and uncle saw them in the 1970s.

Reader Dusty Brown shared his encounter-also in San Saba County.

I just read your article about the micro white tails. I would like to share this with you. My family used to have a lease down on cotton belt rd up until about 12 years ago. About 15 years ago, my dad and I watched a little micro 8 point  fighting 2 other deer and beat up on both of them. We were laughing in our stand about this little bitty buck. He was about a foot shorter than even the does he was chasing. After we got back and my dad picked up his mount from the year before from the taxidermist, my dad told him about that buck. The taxidermist asked my dad why didn’t he shoot him and my dad thought he wasn’t worth shooting. The taxidermist said he would have full body mounted him for us because that is a super rare deal to see and according to him, they are rarer than albino deer. We never saw that little guy again and unfortunately I do not have a picture of him. I just have the memory of that hunt and is almost getting busted because we were laughing so hard that day. Just thought I would share that with you. I know you said y’all saw one in San saba as well. Just curious where y’all saw yours

If you have ever seen a whitetail like this or have photos/video email chester@chestermoore.com.
