A 19-Foot Long Mako?

While working on a story on great white shark lookalikes, I came across an interesting note.

While researching makos, I kept seeing, “up to 19 feet” as length which just boggled my mind. After all, that’s super-sized great white shark length.

Well, it looks like it could be true. This photo shows a massive female shortfin mako caught off the coast of turkey in the 1950s. I’m currently trying to find anyone who is still living that might be involved with this catch.

There are many references to this catch online but all of them I have found repeat the caption for this photo.

I’m currently digging into some other sources to find out more.

Do you have any info on this catch? If so, email me at chester@chesteroore.com.

You might be wondering about the vintage yellowish photo at the top of this photo. That was created by A.!.

I used it as a featured photo to show that nowadays when it comes to vintage photos they are very easily faked, so be cautious of what you believe.

In fact, I will be doing a lengthy article about how A.I. is changing the dynamic of fish photos and it will certainly apply to sharks. Look for that this summer.

Fakery is being taken to a whole new level unfortunately.
