The police chief of Angelo State University in San Angelo has been charged with misdemeanor boating while intoxicated over Memorial Day weekend.
The San Angelo Standard-Times reported Friday that Chief James Adams was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on May 25. Records show Adams was released the following day on $1,000 bail.
ASU spokesman Preston Lewis on Friday said school officials were informed at the time of the incident and Adams has been put on desk duty. Lt. Marc West will serve as acting university police chief until the case has been resolved.
Lewis said Adams was not available for comment.
Angelo State University is part of the Texas Tech System.
