As a part of the week long Inshore Fishing Association Championship taking place in Houma in October, Falgout Canal Marina in Theriot will host the first ever College Saltwater Championship.

The Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) has joined with the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) to put on the event and college teams from across the country are expected to compete in the redfish tournament, which features a two-person per team format.

The Association of Collegiate Anglers, a division of CarecoTV and The Bass Federation, is a sanctioning body developed to facilitate growth, development and structure within competitive collegiate bass fishing.

The ACA provides support to dozens of regional events nationwide and owns the Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series, the largest participatory collegiate tournament circuit in the country.

Registration for interested student anglers is available by calling 478-836-4266. Check-in is Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at Falgout Canal Marina at 1868 Dr. Beatrous Road in Theriot.

Fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 19, and the weigh-in is set for 2 p.m.

“We’re excited about the new College Saltwater Championship,” said IFA Marketing Director Bart Schad. “It’s going to be a great opportunity to reach up-and-coming tournament anglers and should be an amazing event. We’re looking forward to working with the ACA.”

“This will be a tremendous event and the first of its kind when it comes to saltwater competition for collegiate anglers,” said Wade Middleton, president of CarecoTV and co-founder of the ACA. “We’re proud to partner with the IFA and excited to help bring this event to life.”
