MADISON, WI (WALB) –
If you are afraid of spiders, you may not want to read any further.
The Department of Natural Resources in Wisconsin is warning residents about an increase in large spiders big enough to eat a fish.
You read that statement correctly. These spiders don’t mess around.
According to the department, they have been receiving reports of people finding the very large spiders, like the one in the picture. They made a post on their Facebook page describing the situation.
Experts say the arachnids are fishing spiders. The most common report they have received has been about one called the dark fishing spider.
Wisconsin DNR officials said these kind of spiders often live next to water and can even catch small fish and tadpoles to eat, but also can range inland to hunt and lay eggs.
The post described the spider in the picture as a female, guarding her egg sac, seen atop a bluebird house.
