The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a Galliano man caught way too many black drum Saturday, and none of the fish were large enough to legally harvest.

Agents cited Rufino Gonzalez-Ibarra, 34, for possessing 26 black drum and one redfish while fishing on Pointe aux Chenes Wildlife Management Area. All of the fish were short of the 16-inch minimum size limit that is required for each species, the department reported.

“The legal limit for black drum is five per person per day, making Gonzalez-Ibarra four times over the legal limit,” the department said in a news release.

Gonzalez-Ibarra was charged with taking and possessing over the legal limit of black drum, possessing undersized black drum and possessing undersized redfish.

Possessing over the legal limit of black drum and possessing undersized black drum and redfish bring a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense.
