Anytime that the summer winds start to calm and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico start to look more like a backyard pool than a washing machine, many Texas anglers break out the big rods and head out in search of one of the most popular recreational species…Red Snapper! When fisheries managers first identified that Red Snapper stocks were on the decline, CCA Texas did what we always strive to do, put the fish first and removed snapper from STAR.

Well, the time has come that this beloved, and delicious, fish made its long awaited return to the Hoffpauir Offshore Division of the STAR Tournament! With a liberal Federal water season expected and results from the Great Red Snapper Count showing 23 million Red Snapper off the coast of Texas, the STAR Tournament Committee could not wait any longer. In order to help conserve and maintain this incredible fishery, STAR will have a 20 lb. minimum for all Red Snapper weighed in. The lucky angler to catch the heaviest fish, will take home a 570 EFI Polaris Ranger in Pursuit camo, Big Tex trailer, from Hoffpauir Polaris and a special edition STAR trophy. STAR will also be awarding four Runner-Up places gift cards from Academy Sports + Outdoors.
