On Saturday Oct. 2 , the Montgomery Independent School District (MISD) Fishing Team began its’ first leg of Defending their Conference and Regional Titles, by besting 25 other programs in the Houston Division of the Texas High School Bass Association.

There were 173 Individual Teams from 26 area High Schools present, where MISD brought 46 of those Teams.

Luckily, the threat of severe weather passed before the tournament, and by all accounts, our anglers enjoyed a great day on the water. MISD was led by former Anglers of the Year Fallon Clepper and Wyatt Ford, who brought in a 5 fish limit for 13.80 pounds, claiming 2nd Place. This was a huge accomplishment,

They were followed by Chaston Wellman and Damian Williams with another nice limit weighing 11.95 pounds, which landed them in 5th place. Following close behind in 6th place were Jake Hird and Leslie Williams, with 11.90 pounds. All totaled, our top 3 weights added up to 37.67 pounds, edging out College Station for the Tournament Victory.

This is normally the formula for success, having three teams in the Top Ten, and this held true this time around. MISD actually had five Teams in the Top 10, with reigning Angler of the Year Cade “Super Fly” Lipham coming in 7th with a 5 bass limit of his own, which weighed 11.20 pounds.

Newcomers Preston Burch and Andrew Wilson rounded out the Top 10, claiming the 10th spot.

The next tournament for the combined squad from both Lake Creek and Montgomery High Schools, will be Oct. 30  at Lake Somerville, where the team will look to continue their defense of their conference and regional titles.

It should be a tough challenge, as Brenham and College Station are normally very strong on their home lake, but it’s nothing these young men and women from MISD haven’t faced before.

“To the Defense!”
