Flounder Revolution is back!

The catch-and-release conservation project founded by award-winning wildlife journalist and Texas Fish & Game Editor-In-Chief Chester Moore that began in 2008 returned with a new format in 2021. And it has been extremely successful.

So far the program has received 100 entries.

“We’re sending out challenge tokens for anglers who have released flounder measuring 20 inches or more. And from Oct. 15-Dec. 3 we added a special offer of a token for any angler who has released legal-sized flounder in 2021. The response has been tremendous. During the first go-round with the project in 2008, we had 21 entries so this is exciting,” Moore said.

Stephen Brown caught and released this 25.2-inch flounder to earn a Save the Saddle Blanket award token.

The program is sponsored by CCA-Texas.

“CCA-Texas sponsored us back in the original format of the program from 2009-2014 and they are back providing the funding for these tokens and postage. They have a real commitment to the flounder fishery and know the importance of promoting release of large flounder,” Moore said

Flounder Revolution has also given out 96 First Flounder tokens to kids catching their first flatfish.

“The response to that has been so cool to see. And the wooden tokens we’re giving out are a hit with the kids,” Moore said.

“I know it’s just a little wooden coin but my girl loves it! Learned that we had to let the big one go so it could have babies. Thanks again,” said angler and proud father Brandon Schilter.

Brandon Schilter and his daughter Audrey are all smiles with the big flounder they caught and released. Kids catching their first flounder can earn a First Flounder token.

Now that the special promotion is over, the program is going back to tokens for big fish released only.
