Hunters are responding to the Turkey Revolution Eastern Turkey Aware photo contest.

Hunters (and wildlife photographers) who submit Eastern turkey photos from Texas and Louisiana will be a challenge token and decal.

James Handley submitted these pics from Red River County, TX.

I have always used photojournalism as an awareness-raising mechanism but this revelation gave me new purpose in this quest and created two projects.

The first is Turkey Revolution, which seeks to raise awareness to wild turkeys, their conservation challenges and their habitat.

Jimmie Jessup submitted this great shot from Livingston Parish, La.

In year one my goal was to photograph the Grand Slam, which I did and reported on here in this newsletter.

Year two was about photographing an Eastern turkey in East Texas, which was super challenging and happened May 2020 in Newton County near the Sabine River.

Year three was a quest to find Gould’s turkeys in Arizona and I had the incredible privilege of photographing two massive gobblers in the Sky Islands area in March 2021.

And for 2022 the goal is to involve you.

The more people that realize we have Eastern turkeys in Texas, the more light we can shine on the great work done by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and National Wild Turkey Federation-Texas to restore them. And the more we can have opportunities to discuss the need for quality habitat for turkeys that benefits everything from whitetails to woodpeckers.

So, through my Higher Calling Wildlife® outreach, we have created a new Eastern Turkey Aware challenge token. If you have photographed eastern turkeys in East Texas or Louisiana on a game camera or by traditional photography, email the photos with the county or parish the photo was taken to chester@chestermoore.com. We will send you one of these cool wooden challenge tokens and a special edition Higher Calling Wildlife® turkey decal.

Thanks to the National Wild Turkey Federation-Montgomery County Chapter for their help on this project.

We will share these in posts in our e-newsletter, post them at fishgame.com and they will go in the Turkey Revolution photo gallery at highercalling.net

Higher Calling Wildlife mentors teens facing special challenges to become wildlife conservationists. Several of the teens we work with will be promoting this challenge via social media and helping in other ways.

It’s our way of helping create a NOW generation of conservationists.
