Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) officials, changed speckled trout (spotted seatrout) regulations in response to the major coastal freeze kill of 2021.
This huge trout was found dead during the freeze of 2021. There were many like it killed along the coast.
The regulations impacted the Matagorda complex south to the Mexico line. Those regulations are set to revert to what they were before the change.
Here’s the original text.
“From March 16, 2022 through Aug. 31, 2023 in Matagorda, San Antonio, Aransas, Corpus Christi and Laguna Madre Bay Systems (all beaches and bay fronts for the waters continuously south of FM 457) the following limits apply: Daily bag 3, Minimum Length 17 inches, Maximum Length 23.”
The following rules are the standard north of FM 457 and is what they will revert to south of there, Sept. 1 unless a change is made.
Daily Bag: 5
Min Length: 15 inches
Max Length: 25 inches
Possession Limit: Double the daily bag limit Clarification: No more than one spotted seatrout over the stated maximum length may be retained per person per day and counts as part of the daily bag and possession limit. Possession = double the daily bag limit.
