Bears are repopulating Texas in several areas.
The largest population is in the Trans-Pecos with the second largest concentration of sightings around Lake Falcon and scattered reports in the western Edward’s Plateau.
Black bears are also starting to show up in East Texas more frequently and according to researchers at Stephen F.Austin University, the most consistent migration point is from Oklahoma into Northeast Texas.
Wildlife researcher Todd Jurasek has gotten some incredible game camera videos of black bears in southern Oklahoma just a few dozen miles from the Texas line. This includes the color phase (brown) you see here along with many other videos.
