The all new F350 adds more power to the Yamaha lineup.

For the 2024 model year Yamaha Outboards has announced the introduction of a new – and big – motor: the F350.

The all new F350 adds more power to the Yamaha lineup.

Perhaps the biggest surprise here is that Yamaha didn’t merely change the computer mapping of the 4.2 liter F300 to gain some extra juice, but they really redesigned the engine and increased its displacement to 4.3 liters. The trick was increasing the stroke and improving the way the engine breathes. A new camshaft profile (accompanied by a new, stronger alloy construction) increases valve lift, and at the same time, a larger electronic throttle valve and bigger surge tanks boost air flow entering the combustion chambers. On the other side of the equation the exhaust valve diameter has been increased for additional flow. In addition, Yamaha switched the spark plugs to iridium and also added a new flushing port to complement the existing manual hook-up, which can be plumbed to boats with automatic flushing systems.

Yamaha’s F250 and F300 4.2L platform has a tremendous reputation for reliability and longevity, so building on this platform makes sense. Plus, it means the F350 benefits from a number of perks long used for the existing engines: plasma-fused cylinders, multipoint electronic fuel injection, Helm Master EX integration, and more. Better yet, it also receives a number of upgrades that Yamaha developed for their F425 and F450 XTO outboards: an integrated flywheel fan, reverse thrust exhaust redirection keeping gasses away from the propeller, digital electric steering, etc.

Now, for the moment everyone’s been waiting for – just how much does this engine weigh? By sticking with the V6 platform instead of jumping up to a V8, it’s barely been increased. In fact, the new F350 with a 25″ shaft tilts the scales at 629 pounds. That’s a mere 18 pounds more than the F300, and it gives the new Yamaha F350 the best power-to-weight ratio in its class.

Price is TBD and engines are expected to be available in the U.S. some time this spring. Visit Yamaha to learn more.
