A Look At Offbeat Topwaters

All anglers have heard of topwater plugs and most are familiar with poppers, walk-the-dog style plugs and buzzbaits but there are others out there.

Let’s take a look at a couple that are overlooked in the Texas market.

Prop baits feature one or more propellers on either end of the lure. These propellers spin as the lure is retrieved, creating commotion and splashing sounds on the water’s surface. The unique disturbance created by prop baits mimics fleeing prey, making them particularly effective in calmer waters where fish are more likely to notice the surface activity. These lures are excellent for targeting bass in particular. An old school version would be the Devil’s Warhorse.

The Sna-Koil from DOA Lures

Creeping style lures  are unique topwater lures with  that mimic unusual type prey like snakes or even birds. They move naturally in the water and can have appendages that make a lot of action in the water.

This action makes  them an excellent choice for targeting large, cautious fish. These lures are particularly effective in calm, shallow waters where fish are more attuned to subtle surface movements.
