World Record Florida Bass Caught At O.H. Ivie

Back in March we reported on Kyle Hall catching a monstrous 15-pound, 13-ounce bass at O.H. Ivie. That fish was one of the highlights of this year’s Toyota Sharelunker program and shows what a hot streak Ivie has been on.

But there’s more.

This is from the International Game Fish Assoication (IGFA)

On March 21, 2024, Kyle Hall was fishing on Lake O.H. Ivie in Texas when he landed this massive 7.17-kilogram (15-pound, 13-ounce) Florida bass. With this fish Kyle has set the IGFA All-Tackle World Record for the species. This is the first world record submission for Florida bass (Micropterus salmoides) since IGFA reorganized black bass records to match modern genetic classifications. Kyle was able to work with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife to provide the results of a genetic study confirming the identity of his record bass.

Congratulations to Kyle!

You can read more about IGFA’s changes on bass records here.

This genetic classification for black bass records is interesting and shows how how Florida bass genetics are in Texas lakes.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials noted this fish was the “heaviest bass in Texas to be genetically verified as a pure Florida Largemouth Bass this year. This fish also marked the 37th largest bass in Texas history.”
