Fifty years ago, an outdoors magazine stirred excitement with an article about an alleged 11-foot rattlesnake, a giant among giants.
We have a special video about this snake on this clip below. And there’s a wild story of how two of us at Texas Fish & Game teamed up to unveil this story.
Though records for such a size are unconfirmed, tales of enormous rattlesnakes have persisted, capturing the imagination of many wildlife enthusiasts.
The largest verified eastern diamondback rattlesnake was documented in 1946, measuring 7 feet 8 inches and weighing 34 pounds, while lengths of up to 8.25 feet have been alleged since. Eastern diamondbacks hold the title of the largest rattlesnake due to their significant length and weight.
On the other hand, the western diamondback rattlesnake, typically reaching around 5 feet, had its largest recorded specimen at 7 feet. Claims of these rattlesnakes reaching lengths of 15 feet exist, but such reports lack verification (A-Z Animals Animals Around The Globe)
