Early Teal Season Need To Know Info
- Season Dates and Locations
The statewide Teal Only Season is scheduled from September 14 to September 29, 2024. Hunters across all counties in Texas can participate in this season. It’s important to check specific teal hunting regulations for your county to ensure compliance with local rules. - Teal Species and Bag Limits
During the Teal Only Season, hunters are allowed to bag a daily limit of 6 teal birds. This daily limit can include a mix of blue-winged, green-winged, and cinnamon teal. The possession limit for teal is three times the daily bag limit, allowing hunters to possess up to 18 teal birds at any given time. - Legal Shooting Hours
Hunting for teal is permitted from one-half hour before sunrise until sunset each day during the season. Hunters should refer to local resources to calculate the exact times for sunrise and sunset to ensure they are hunting within legal hours. - License and Endorsement Requirements
All hunters intending to hunt migratory game birds, including teal, must have a valid hunting license. In addition to the hunting license, hunters need a Texas Migratory Game Bird Stamp Endorsement. This endorsement is mandatory for hunting any migratory game bird, which includes waterfowl, coots, rails, gallinules, snipe, doves, sandhill cranes, and woodcocks. - Federal Requirements for Waterfowl Hunters
For hunters targeting waterfowl, including teal, a valid Federal Duck Stamp is required for those aged 16 and older. Additionally, hunters must be HIP (Harvest Information Program) certified. This certification is obtained at the time of purchasing a hunting license by indicating to the license clerk that the hunter intends to hunt migratory game birds and answering a few simple questions related to their hunting activities.
By adhering to these guidelines and regulations, hunters can enjoy a successful and compliant teal hunting season in Texas.
