KELLY GROCE IS A TEXAS-BASED outdoor writer, photographer, and angler who brings the Gulf Coast to life through her vivid storytelling and firsthand fishing adventures. As the author of our “Going Coastal” column she takes a deep and fun look at fishing on the Texas Coast.
A native Texan and self-described water lover, Groce blends her passion for the outdoors with a strong background in communications. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Public Relations with a minor in Global Business from the University of Houston, along with a Corporate Entrepreneurship certificate from the Bauer School of Business. Her professional journey includes work in graphic design, marketing, and freelance journalism, with bylines in Saltwater Angler Magazine, Anglers Journal, and Gulf Coast Mariner.
Groce’s writing stands out for its authenticity and technical insight. Whether she’s detailing the use of side imaging sonar to locate ling over wrecks or recounting a successful sheepshead outing, her articles are both informative and exciting.
Beyond the page, Groce is an active angler and photographer. Her work captures the essence of coastal life, making her a respected voice among Texas anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. TF&G Editor-In-Chief Chester Moore said he has had the opportunity to fish with Kelly and said what he saw on social media was the exact person he spent time with on the water.
“Kelly is great. She’s super passionate about fishing. There are many so-called fishing influencers who I am suspicious of seeing fishing as anything other than an opportunity to cash in with their looks, charisma, etc.” Moore said.
