Chester Moore, Editor-In-Chief of Texas Fish & Game magazine and founder of Higher Calling Wildlife, earned multiple honors at the prestigious Press Club of Southeast Texas “Excellence In Media Awards”, recognizing his work across multiple platforms in outdoor journalism, conservation reporting, and podcasting.
The top honor came in Travel Writing, where Moore won First Place for his Texas Fish & Game feature “Fly Fishing For the Flats of South Padre” — a story that showcased the unique redfish flats of South Padre Island and highlighted the importance of conserving this special coastal resource.
In the audio and digital categories, Moore’s Dark Outdoors podcast — which focuses on dangers and threats in wild places — earned First Place: Overall Podcast Excellence, while his Higher Calling Wildlife podcast and blog earned First Place: Top Blog for the fourth consecutive year, continuing his mission to spotlight crucial wildlife conservation topics.

Moore also earned First Place: Best Talk Show for his Moore Outdoors interview with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, which covered the growing presence of great white sharks in the Gulf of Mexico.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious organization and to do so well in a field of so many great journalists. It’s humbling and inspiring,” Moore said.
His investigative reporting was also recognized for tackling complex conservation issues. His work on the illegal wildlife trafficking and cloning of Marco Polo sheep earned First Place: Environmental Reporting and Audio News Story, while his continued coverage of great white sharks returning to the Gulf earned additional honors, including Second Place: Headline Writing and Third Place: General Blog.
“It was especially meaningful to be recognized for stories that matter deeply to conservation — the kind of reporting that helps hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts understand the real-world challenges facing wildlife and fisheries,” Moore said.
