Bobcat With An Ocelot Pattern (TX Trailcam Video)

Something unusual has been captured on camera in the Texas wild. A recent video provided by the Skupin family shows a feline with the body shape of a bobcat but the striking spotted coat of an ocelot. The short clip has sparked fascination and debate among wildlife watchers who are eager to know what this animal might be.

Watch the Video Below

Bobcats (Lynx rufus) are widespread throughout Texas and are known for their adaptability, stubby tails, and spotted or barred fur. Ocelots (Leopardus pardalis), on the other hand, are rare and federally endangered in the United States, found only in small populations in South Texas. Their coats are marked with distinct rosettes and streaks, making them one of the most visually striking wild cats in North America.

The cat in the Skupin video seems to display features of both species — the bobcat’s size and build with markings that more closely resemble an ocelot’s.

Whether this animal is an especially patterned bobcat, a rare genetic outlier, or even evidence of hybridization from back many years ago remains unknown. What is certain is that such sightings highlight the diversity and mystery of Texas wildlife.
