LAKE JACKSON, TX—Sharks are among the most impressive athletes in the natural world, and visitors to Sea Center Texas will have the opportunity to discover why during the facility’s Shark Celebration on Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The free family-friendly event will transform Sea Center Texas into a showcase of shark science, conservation, and hands-on activities as guests explore the remarkable speed, strength, agility, and power that have made sharks some of the ocean’s most successful predators.

Among the organizations participating in this year’s celebration is the Gulf Great White Shark Society, which will host an educational booth and present information on shark research and conservation efforts taking place in Gulf waters.
Chester Moore, founder of the Gulf Great White Shark Society, will also present a special program focusing on great white sharks in the Gulf. It will take place at 1 p.m.
The presentation will examine the history of great white encounters in the region, recent scientific discoveries, satellite tracking efforts, and what researchers are learning about the role these apex predators play in Gulf ecosystems.
For Moore, participation in the event is especially meaningful because of his longstanding connection to Sea Center Texas.
“It is an honor for the Gulf Great White Shark Society to be part of this outstanding event,” Moore said.
“I have a long history with Sea Center Texas and was fortunate to volunteer with their Southern Flounder broodstock program. I’ve also had the privilege of speaking at the facility a number of times over the years. Sea Center Texas plays a vital role in marine education and conservation in Texas, and it has introduced countless people to the importance of our coastal resources. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in Shark Celebration and help share the story of great white sharks in the Gulf.”
Operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Sea Center Texas has become one of the state’s leading marine education facilities. The center welcomes thousands of visitors each year and offers a unique look at Texas fisheries conservation, hatchery operations, and the marine life that inhabits Gulf waters.
That mission makes Shark Celebration more than just a day of family entertainment. The event serves as an opportunity to connect people with the science behind shark conservation while helping dispel myths surrounding some of the ocean’s most important predators.
Visitors will have the opportunity to test their abilities against shark-inspired challenges through activities such as the Shark Speed Challenge, High Jump Test, Bite Force Test, and the Shark Combine, where participants can compare their athletic abilities to those of various shark species.
Other attractions include a shark scavenger hunt, shark tooth identification, educational exhibits, shark-themed crafts, face painting, and opportunities to meet marine science professionals.
The event will also feature real shark specimens, hands-on learning stations, and activities designed to engage visitors of all ages. Whether attendees are lifelong shark enthusiasts or simply looking for an educational summer outing, organizers hope the event will inspire a deeper appreciation for these remarkable animals and the ecosystems they inhabit.
Sea Center Texas is located at 302 Medical Drive in Lake Jackson. Admission to Shark Celebration is free.
