Today, Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order implementing Essential Services and Activities Protocols for Texas that will override previous local orders and be in effect through April 30th.

The protocols allow exceptions for essential activities and services based on the Department of Homeland Security’s guidelines on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce, which includes “workers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.”

The governor also mentioned in his press release that it does not prohibit people from engaging in essential daily activities, such as hunting or fishing, provided that the necessary precautions are maintained to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and to minimize in-person contact with people who are not in the same household.

So do we need fishing license to fish still in Texas

  2. Linda Brazil says:

Guides are using this as an excuse to take the public out from other cities and counties. Out of towners have to eat and use public facilities. To me this should not be allowed. Hairdressers are now shut down. This should be too

    • Newell Vernon Rambo says:

Some people don’t have enough money to buy food so they have to go hunting and fishing for food. I have always said that Texans should never go hungry. Hunt for meat and fowl. Fish or crabs, oysters, shrimp and fish.

    • Stephen says:

It’s true that guides should be stopped because their clients usually come from other cities but what about the residents? There’s nothing better at social distancing than being on a boat away from everyone. Just doesn’t seem right.

    • Woody says:

Well you can do without your “hairdresser,” but you can not go without eating !

  3. Ed Lentz says:

People need to have some activities that they can do or they will start going crazy. Gun ranges have the proper clearance to keep people in the safe clearance so they wouldn’t infect others. I think you’ll see other things relaxed as time goes on.

Funny how liquor stores are still open. Keep that whiskey flowing for alcoholic politicians and jobless people for domestic violence to rise to the occasion.

    • Michelle McKiddy says:

The problem is if liquor stores closed it would cut off the supply to alcoholics and put them into severe withdrawals and they would flood our hospitals taking up resources that are needed for this virus. I don’t like it but it makes sense not to add to our already big issue. Just my 2 cents, I don’t know.

    • michael flores says:

Do you think your statement is really true? Listen, the govt. get a very hefty tax on all alcohol sales across the country. in this particular time, it needs all it can get, we are paying trillions of dollars out to everyone unemployed by this crazy pandemic. Some people are dependent on alcohol, whether you think they are alcoholics or not. People may need the extra booze to deal with it, or because they now realize, the teacher was not the problem. But you must also understand, some people, a lot of people, may need alcohol. I am not condoning the excess use of alcohol but check this out.

If liquor stores are closed and the options for alcoholic beverages become more limited, it might cause withdrawals for those people.

Those withdrawals can lead to symptoms such as agitation, a rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure and possibly even hallucinations. If that occurs, then trips to the hospital are a near-certainty, with some cases forcing patients to be placed into a medically induced coma that requires intubation and ventilators.

With some hospitals already being full and ventilators in short supply due to COVID-19, having to admit patients for withdrawal symptoms is the last thing doctors and nurses want to do.

plus, a lot of distilleries are now making hand sanitizer, because a lot of people are hoarding that product. If they get to keep selling their product, they can keep helping our communities out with things we all need.

  5. Wanda says:

Bringing in people from large cities to our small communities, for their entertainment is not safe or considerate for the people of these communities. It just spreads the virus to places that might not otherwise get it.
This needs to be reconsidered !!

    • Michelle McKiddy says:

That is a great point Wanda.

    • William says:

if its public it belongs to everyone ..if you was fishing for entertainment there are much better places in the city’s…fishing and hunting is about feeding your family it’s not about entertainment and if you are doing right social distancing you pose not threat of spreading anything …

  6. Betty Walters says:

Domestic violence will rise to the occasion even if there’s no alcohol!!!

  7. Amy says:

Yes you still have to buy a fishing license except if you are fishing from a bank in A Texas state park.

    • Glen says:

If you fish in any public waters no matter what kind of fishing your doing you must have a fishing license.

      • Becky` says:

Glen, Amy is correct. From the Texas Parks & Wildlife website, “You don’t need a fishing license to fish from shore or pier in a Texas state park.”

  8. Krista says:

Is recreational boating on the list of acceptable activities

  9. Mark Robinson says:

Fishing guides like myself are providing social distancing outdoors and provide fish filets for families to enjoy in this crazy time. Minimal public contact and very clean boats to fish from. If everyone does their part to stay clean we can all be happy and still enjoy gods creations without spreading the virus to others. Guides should only be taking small parties to minimize exposure and offer hand sanitizers before and after the trip.

  10. Sunni Stalbird says:

Some of us are small business owners, keeping safe and distant, I also rescue animals and depend on taking my dogs to run and swim, when possible at our lake, I go by myself with the dogs only, distancing, hopefully that is acceptable,? Just need to know the rules of course, during these times, Thank you

    • Johnny says:

Since food and necessities are a little harsh to come by.. hinting and fishing is a way of some people to get their food .. like l have started a garden.. and my useing chickens for eggs and staying away from stores..

  11. Chuck Perry says:

I need to hunt now, for food I normally buy. One of the problems I’ve encountered is land owners now charging exhorbitant fees to hunt things like wild hog, which cause a LOT of property damage if not contained. Can’t buy the meat, and CERTAINLY can’t afford to hunt it.

    • Justin says:

You can come shoot all the hogs you want at my house for free! Bring you’re own tent, gun and skinning knife. 600 acres

  12. Shaun says:

U do not need a fishing licence as long as u do not use a real on ur pole. Its been like this for years people.

  13. Michelle says:

Do you have to fish within the county you live? My understanding is that you can not leave your county.

  14. William says:

Just don’t allow Chinese products to benefit by exporting ANYTHING Fishing or hunting without 2 or 3 hundred % Tarrifs .
When are we (Americans) going finally tell them to take flying($$@#%€) at their goals aimed at destroying America? . COVID 19,fentynol,opioids, intelligent properties,?and who knows what else?

  15. Marie says:

I am confused because even though Governor Abbot allows fishing, our County Judge said NO in a press conference today.
