The Election And Guns

Tonight’s election will be historic. And this is especially true with the gun issue being key not only in the Presidential ballot but also in Senatorial and Congressional races as well.

More Texans have early voted than voted altogether during the 2016 election.

Here are a few thoughts of what might happen in different scenarios during this election on the issue of guns.

Case 1 (Trump Wins): If President Trump wins, many gun owners will feel relieved. After all, he has received favorable reports on the gun issue from everyone from the NRA to grassroots gun activists. No one would expect a bunch of anti-gun executive orders for example, but keep this in mind. The Senate is at play and Democrats already control the House. If they do take control of both houses what kind of bills will they send to the President’s desk? Remember Trump is a deal-maker. Would he sign bills with some smaller gun control measures attached to make a deal he seems more important happen? Then again in a second term, he may even be bolder and veto any such action with great enthusiasm. I don’t think this type of scenario will happen but then again it is politics.

Case 2 (Biden Wins): The Biden/Harris ticket has already said they will roll out much stricter gun control measures on everything from magazine capacity to ammunition selections. I would expect whatever can be done on gun control through executive order to happen in short order while they have momentum. If they get a Democrat-controlled Senate on top of a victory expect major gun control in the first 90 days. Gun control is a major part of the party’s platform and Biden’s personal platform as we reported here.

Case 3 (A Standoff) We all know there is a very good chance this election no matter who is deemed winner will be contested at some level. Will this lead to civil unrest?  If so, will gun violence pour into the streets, and if so after the human casualty sinks in what will the backlash on guns and gun owners be?’

Those who have protected themselves from rioters with guns have already received harsh backlash earlier in 2020. If things get worse than they did this summer, more of that could easily happen.

What do you think will happen? Will Trump win and allow gun owners to breathe a sigh of relief or do you not quite trust him despite his record? If Biden wins how quickly will gun control measures be enacted?

I am tired of having to defend the second amendment from a bunch of idiots. If the democrats think that they can change the constitution with the stroke of a pen, then come prepared if an attempt is made to confiscate weapons from legal gun owners. Will there be blood in the streets if this happens, probably, but rightly so! No one will prevent me, and my fellow Americans from protecting our families. Nuff said!

I am a, gun owner, a hunter, and an octogenarian. I observe the game and fish laws. I subscribe to print TF&G. I do NOT feel that I’m taxed too much. I believe in the institutions of government, from the fire department to the Congress. I do NOT believe a Biden-Harris administration will take my guns away or ruin my retirement income. I oppose Texas Fish and Game (digital) being a megaphone for wing-nut demagogues, however grand their titles, and for the disreputable NRA. I respect science and loathe the notion of “alternative facts.” I regard the “Deep State” as a convenient and self-serving paranoid fantasy. I am skeptical of all White House assertions, including the president’s COVID-19 diagnosis.

Joe Moldenhauer – Respectfully, Joe Biden has clearly stated that he plans to begin outlawing certain types of guns. If he can outlaw any guns, he can outlaw all guns. There is no reason to believe he won’t. You, sir, with respect, are amazingly ignorant of what we can expect if Biden wins.
