How does Democrat Presidential Candidate Joe Biden view the Second Amendment?

The NRA-ILA recently posted a story about a Biden appearance at a town hall meeting hosted by New Hampshire ABC affiliate WMUR. His answer to a question regarding the Second Amendment including an individual’s right to keep and bear arms in relation to the District of Columbia Vs. Heller was revealing.

From the NRA-ILA...

During the event, Biden was asked, “Do you agree with the D.C. v. Heller decision in regards to protecting the individual right to bear arms that are in common use and which are utilized for lawful purposes?”

Biden responded in part, “If I were on the court I wouldn’t have made the same ruling. OK, that’s number one.”

Later, they noted he said the following.

And I taught for years Constitutional law and separation of powers, I taught the Second Amendment. And the Second Amendment is not absolute. And we can argue, the fundamental argument is well regulated militia and all those things, I won’t get into that. I think that the fundamental argument is the reason that was given as a right because we needed to be able to muster people to deal with an enemy called Great Britain we were fighting in a war.

This matches with candidate Biden’s official policy on gun control we profiled in a recent article where his official campaign website lists banning “assault weapons” and even regulating those same weapons already in private ownership. Here’s the quote directly from the Biden campaign website.

Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act. Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine-guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Due to these requirements, such weapons are rarely used in crimes. As president, Biden will pursue legislation to regulation possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.

Do you think the Second Amendment includes the protection of individual gun ownership?

We do.

Although Texas voted Republican this year, too bad this article was not published until after the election. Why is that. I knew his position because I watch a lot of real news. But many people don’ t have access to information.
