When I meet game wardens I often ask if I can speak with them about the dangers they have faced in the line of duty.
When I asked this question of a warden at a wildlife banquet a couple of years back, the answer shocked me.
“You mean like all of the stuff going on around the Sam Houston National Forest?”
I had just learned about Jerrie’s Dean’s website, The Missing Texas 40 and a huge number of missing people in Montgomery and Liberty Counties, many of which were close to the Sam Houston National Forest.
I had also read about bodies found there, decapitation lines set on biking trails and more in an area popular with hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers and mountain bikers.
This inspired an investigation that ended up revealing some pretty wild things about this beautiful area of East Texas.
