Free Event To Focus On Gulf Great White Sharks

The Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur, TX is getting ready for a special event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jaws — and to teach visitors about real great white sharks in the Gulf.

On June 21, the museum hosts “Great White Sharks in the Gulf.” This one-day event brings together science, education, and fun for the whole family. Visitors can learn about great white sharks that now live in the Gulf and how researchers track and study them.

Documentary Showings

Two showings of the film Gulf Great White Sharks: Return of an Icon take place at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. The film shows how great whites are returning to Gulf waters and the important work being done to study and protect them.

Throughout the day, visitors can explore exhibits with shark facts, see real shark research equipment, and talk to marine experts. There are hands-on displays where kids can touch replica shark teeth and learn about shark anatomy. Families can also enjoy fun activities like coloring stations, giveaways, and take-home materials that teach about shark conservation.

Great White Inspiration

The event also highlights how Jaws helped inspire many people to learn more about sharks. Instead of creating fear, the museum uses the movie’s anniversary to show how important sharks are to ocean life and how we can help protect them.

Visitors can also find out how to get involved in local shark conservation through organizations featured at the event. Information about shark tagging, research programs, and how to report shark sightings in the Gulf will be available.

The event is free with regular museum admission. It offers a great chance for families, students, anglers, and anyone interested in marine life to learn more about these amazing animals that live right off the Texas coast.
