(KENS 5) Eyewitness News has learned the owners of a newly announced aquarium coming to San Antonio are under investigation for the deaths of dozens of marine animals.
The Oregon Humane Society says it is investigating Vince and Ammon Covino for the deaths of more than 200 animals at an aquarium in Portland last year.
According to a death log: the animals included sea horses, sharks, and fish.
Causes of death included starvation, infection and animal-on-animal attacks.
Vince Covino said that the death logs were falsified, and that “it’s defamatory to our highly qualified team of marine biologists”
Vince’s brother and co-owner ‘Ammon’ spent a year in jail for illegally purchasing marine life in Florida and shipping it without a permit to another aquarium the brothers own in Boise, Idaho.
Construction has started to turn a former Fiesta Dodge dealership in Leon Valley into the 50,000 sqaure-foot aquarium.
The main attraction will be a 125,000gallon tunnel tank.
The Covino brothers say the first exhibit is on schedule to open in December.
